Rug Care and Advice

Rug Care

General Care

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures your rug's longevity and appearance.

Rug Underlay

Rug underlays help keep your rug in place and protect the floor beneath.

Sprouting

Loose threads or tufts may appear; trim them carefully with scissors.

Fluffing

It is normal for new rugs to fluff as there can still be loose fibres within the pile from the weaving and finishing processes. This should last no longer than 2-3 months.

Cleaning

Bamboo Silk

Avoid scrubbing your rug when you are cleaning. Start with a damp towel and blot the area with the spill or stain. If the stain is stubborn, use a soft hand brush and gently stroke in the direction of the pile while blotting every few strokes. Try not to go in a circular motion. Use a hair dryer on a cool setting to dry wet areas or use salt on the damp area, then vacuum the following day.

Cocoon Silk

Never saturate or soak a silk rug with water — this will damage the silk fibres and potentially your floors. Use only cold water if necessary to avoid shrinkage. If spills occur, blot immediately, then spot clean with mild soap and cold water. Do not use oxygen cleaners on silk fibres. For best results, periodic professional cleaning is recommended and encouraged to protect silk fibres.

Handspun Jute

Clean regularly to keep jute looking good long term. Vacuum regularly to keep dirt from getting trapped in fibres. DO NOT steam clean or wet, as natural fibres are highly absorbent and may cause shrinkage. Suction cleaning or dry extraction cleaning is recommended.

Machine Made Polypropylene

Dampen the area with a wet sponge, using as little liquid as possible. Blot with a cloth, then sandwich the stain between two towels and stand on top briefly to remove excess water. Use dishwashing detergent to cut through greasy marks. Lift more stubborn stains with baking soda and white vinegar. Sprinkle a little baking soda on the stain and use a cloth dipped in white vinegar to dab and clean. Can be steam cleaned.

New Zealand Wool

Use only cold water when cleaning wool to avoid shrinkage. If a spill occurs, blot immediately, then clean up with mild soap and cold water. Do not use oxygen cleaners on your wool rug. Use salt to soak up liquid spills (i.e., red wine) and then vacuum.

Premium Linen

To spot clean, use a light-coloured cloth and be careful not to rub. Most linen rugs will come clean simply using water and a cloth. For stubborn stains, sprinkle baking soda on the stain and add a few drops of vinegar. Blot the stain with a paper towel to soak up the moisture.

Recycled Bottle PET

Shake the rug out to remove surface dirt and dust. Avoid scrubbing your rug; instead, spot clean spills by blotting with a wet sponge and mild detergent. Do not scrub or rub as this will force the stain deeper into the rug. Do not steam clean.

Wool

Wool is dirt and stain-resistant and will look great for a long time with regular vacuuming. Use only cold water when cleaning wool to avoid shrinkage. If a spill occurs, blot immediately, then clean up with mild soap and cold water. Do not use oxygen cleaners on your wool rug. Use salt to soak up liquid spills (i.e., red wine) and then vacuum.
